Prized as one of the world’s best rice varieties, winning 4 times at the annual World Rice Conference, this long-grain and wonderfully fragrant variety is a type of jasmine rice with an intense aromatic flavor and indulgent taste. Hailing from Cambodia, this rice emits a floral and buttery aroma when cooking with a nutty and slightly sweet taste. It cooks up to a soft, yet fluffy and moist texture that is subtly sticky, however not as much as glutinous rice.
Try this variety on its own, simply cooking with water and a dash of salt to first understand its characteristics and then explore from there.
What you’ll need: With a ratio of 1:1.5, start with 1 cup Kamalis™ Jasmine Rice and 1 ½ cups of water. Bring the water to a boil, stir in Kamalis™ Rice, cover and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 15 minutes, remove from heat and let stand 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and use as you please!
RiceSelect® Kamalis™ offers versatility for impressive creative culinary creations, specifically with Asian-focused techniques and flavors in anything from stir fries to dessert rice puddings.
Take your taste buds to Thailand tonight with a dish of Spicy Shrimp Salad (Pla Goong) or a Sweet and Sour Pork Belly over Kamalis™ Rice (Gaeng Hunglay).
With its distinctive deep, dark color and delicious aromatic yet subtle nutty flavor, our premium black rice is higher in protein, minerals and antioxidants than traditional white rice but offers the same versatility for meals. Originating in Thailand, this whole grain cooks to a subtle chewy texture.
One question you might be wondering is what is the difference between black rice and brown rice? Both boast a wide array of nutrients for optimal benefits. Also, they are both whole grain, loaded with fiber and antioxidants, and offer a subtle nutty taste. Black rice, however, is technically an aromatic variety of rice that originates from Southeast Asia, specifically Thailand.
Much like Kamalis™, cook this variety on its own and then experiment with other delicious recipes included below.
What you’ll need: With a rice to water ratio of 1:2, start with 1 cup of Black Rice and 2 cups of water. Bring the water to a boil in a pot, stir in the Black Rice and cover. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and use as you please!
The aromatic long-grains of Black Rice make it ideal for adding a pop of color to rice salads like this Black Rice & Edamame Salad with Grapefruit Soy Dressing or a Beef Salad.
Also known as glutinous rice, Discoveries™ Premium Sweet Sticky Dessert Rice is ideal for indulgent desserts with subtle aromatic notes. Hailing from Thailand, this short-grain rice is now primarily grown in East Asia and Northeastern India. The shorter grains are ideal for absorbing more cooking liquid, offering a wonderfully luscious texture and spectacular taste.
Making the best homemade sweet rice is easier than ever.
What you’ll need: With a rice to water ratio of 1:1, start with 1 cup of rice with 1 cup of water: First, soak the rice in cool water for 15 minutes, then drain. Bring 1 cup of water to a boil and stir in rice. Cover; reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and fluff with a fork.
Tip: Alternatively, other cooking liquids can be used instead of water such as coconut milk, almond milk or any other plant-based milk variety.
Its absorbent grains make this variety perfect for sweet culinary creativity. Make an impressive and memorable final course using this sweet sticky dessert rice infused with more creamy flavor like coconut milk or whole milk with spices for this Golden Milk Sticky Rice Pudding. Or, with evaporated milk with water, vanilla, brown sugar and cinnamon in this recipe for Sticky Rice Topped with Caramelized Bananas.
